Since its founding, MCF has donated over $30 million to nonprofits in New York City, Dallas, San Francisco, and Philadelphia. We are proud to support nearly 50 organizations working to help those in need. Our primary areas of interest include education, youth development, social services, and criminal justice.
Jamie Elfenbein is the Executive Director of the Maverick Capital Foundation (MCF). At MCF, Jamie helps to grow and fund high-impact nonprofit programs in areas including education, criminal justice, workforce development, and social services. She also creates and oversees all corporate engagement activities.
Before joining MCF, Jamie was a senior program officer at Robin Hood, a foundation that distributes $120 million annually in the fight against poverty in New York City. At Robin Hood, she managed a portfolio of grants in K-12 education and developed Robin Hood’s first ever diversity, equity, and inclusiveness training for its family philanthropy team.
Jamie began her career with Teach for America (TFA), teaching first and fourth grade in Houston, Texas. Jamie’s passion for working with youth led her to help grow a new charter school with YES Prep Public Schools as a sixth-grade reading teacher and instructional coach. Jamie also spent time on TFA’s national staff as a recruitment director, sourcing and selecting talent across the country. During summers, Jamie has worked as a curriculum specialist for TFA in Tulsa and Houston.
In 2018 Jamie was named a Pahara Institute NextGen Fellow. Jamie holds a bachelor’s degree in media studies from the University of California, Berkeley and a master’s degree in education from Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is a proud transfer student, beginning her post-secondary education at Santa Monica Community College.
Bridget Melancon Hoffman is a Program Officer at Maverick Capital Foundation (MCF). She began her career teaching Pre-K and Kindergarten through Teach for America in Prince George’s County, Maryland. In 2011, Bridget joined Teach For America’s regional community partnerships team in Washington D.C. There she worked with over 600 TFA corps members overseeing teacher certification and helping design programming at George Mason University and American University.
Most recently, Bridget was the Manager of Special Events at YES Prep Public Schools in Houston, Texas. She managed all fundraising events including an annual Poker Tournament and YES Prep’s 20th Anniversary Celebration. In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, Bridget and YES Prep’s Development team spearheaded a relief effort, handling the distribution of over $4.3 million to families in need.
As MCF’s program officer, Bridget manages the relationships with MCF community partners. She also creates and meaningful volunteer and employee engagement opportunities between MCF board members and MCF organizations.

We know that talented people are essential to any high functioning organization and believe the best relationships are partnerships.
We focus on measurable outcomes. The most effective nonprofits use relevant metrics to support key decisions for the organization and their clients.
We understand the importance of stable funding. While MCF grantees must reapply annually and go through a rigorous evaluation process, our desire is to keep them in the portfolio and build capacity long-term.
We seek organizations working to alleviate or eradicate some component of poverty within the regions in which we do business.
Please note that Maverick Capital Foundation does not receive unsolicited proposals, but we’re always available to answer questions or to connect with organizations interested in working together with our foundation. Given the number of messages we receive, you may expect a delay in response.
